HKSAR Chief Executive in Singapore for first official visit

SINGAPORE -- Donald Tsang, chief executive of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is now in Singapore for a three-day official visit, which aims to seek ways to boost bilateral ties.

Donald Tsang, who arrived in Singapore on Friday afternoon, met with Singapore's Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong on Saturday, and the two exchanged views on recent developments in East Asia and the progress of bilateral cooperation.

The two also agreed that Hong Kong and Singapore could learn from each other's experiences.

On Friday night, Donald Tsang also met separately with Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, focusing their discussions on key regional developments and uncertainties in the global environment, including the economic outlook and inflation.

Donald Tsang, who has visited the Bedok NEWater visitor center to learn more about Singapore's water recycling efforts, has also learnt more about Singapore's population policies and its efforts to keep talent in the civil service.

It is Donald Tsang's first official visit to Singapore after his private visit to the country in July 2006.

Donald Tsang will leave for home on Sunday.
