We have two feelings at this very sad moment: one is the tremendous sadness and grief for the dead and the other is the admiration for the way the Chinese government has reacted to the disaster. The rescue teams are acting as one, so I believe China will succeed in this difficult situation.

Eleih-Elle Etian

Cameroonian ambassador to China

Japan will do its best to help China. I hope the Japanese rescue team saves many lives and helps victims rebuild their families and communities. It is very necessary for our two countries to enhance cooperation on fighting earthquakes in the future. As a country where quakes are very frequent, Japan's previous experience will be useful for our neighbor.

Yuji Miyamoto

Japanese ambassador to China

The thoughts of all Europeans are today with the Chinese people.

The plight of all the victims, both living and dead, has touched the hearts of all of us following this disaster. The EU will continue to help with relief efforts.

Serge Abou

European Union ambassador to China

I'd like to express sympathy and solicitude on behalf of the Russian leadership for the victims of the gruesome disaster. Chinese people's pain is also ours.

As a friend and strategic partner of China, we would like to do our best to offer assistance. For example, we will offer mobile hospitals to the hit area.

Sergey Razov

Russian ambassador to China

As a good friend to China, Romania dispatched a seven-people medical team to Chengdu last Wednesday. The group has helped rescue 600 children already. Another 11-strong medical group is due to arrive soon. This is not the first time China has faced such a big challenge, but we believe the country will overcome the difficulties and rebuild the earthquake-struck area.

Viorel Isticioaia

Romanian ambassador to China

We have been very much impressed by the mobilization of the leadership and the openness and transparency of the earthquake reports, which also helped us to respond quickly.

The Australian government has already offered millions of dollars in financial aid and we stand ready to do more.

Geoffrey William Raby

Australian ambassador to China

The Peruvian government set May 19 as a national mourning day for Chinese earthquake victims and the Peruvian flag was lowered to half-mast on that day in government, military and public buildings around the country and at its overseas missions. It is because we share the feelings of the Chinese people, as last year, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake stuck off the coast of central Peru.

Jesus J. Wu Luy

Peruvian ambassador to China
