BEIJING -- The United Nations delivered $8 million in aid for China's quake-hit province of Sichuan on Wednesday.

Khalid Malik, resident coordinator of the United Nations in China, gave the cheque to China's Foreign Ministry.

The 400 tents provided by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the first batch of material aid provided by a UN agency, has already delivered to Sichuan by two planes.

UNICEF also pledged to offer China other relief materials, including 20,000 quilts and 60,000 study items worth $430,000.
