Yuan Yi was so excited that burst into tears when she heard that unforgettable voice— encouraged her when she was buried in a collapsed building caused by 8-magnitude earthquake in Sichuan province.

“Even though I have never seen you, I can recognize your voice. You saved my life,” Yuan told the fire-fighters from police and fire department of Weifang city in Shandong province on a telephone call.

The 20-year-old girl finally found the heroes who saved her in quake-hit Yingxiu town of Sichuan province and got in touch with them on June 5.

Jiang Ziqing, the leader of the department told the story to the media on a press conference on June 6.

Yuan with left leg amputated now is receiving medical treatment in the General Hospital of the Chengdu Military Command Area. She said, “I learnt from television that the channel was destroyed just 20 minutes later by an aftershock. You bet your lives on saving me. I really appreciated that.”

Cheng Zhongfeng, one of the savers said to her, “It is our duty to save you. We are very happy to see your braveness. With such a spirit, you can overcome all the difficulties in the future.”

Yuan also invited them to pay a visit to Jiuzhaigou, a famous scenic site in Sichuan province and wish them healthy and happy every day.

The fire-fighters sent her condolence cards and origami crane to show best wishes for her.

Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Wu Bangguo once visited Yuan in the hospital.

Yuan was saved after being buried in the rubble for 104 hours. During the succor, her kindness and braveness deeply moved the fire-fighters.

Cheng said, “Her knees were tightly pressed by an iron bed. It was very painful. However, she said she was not afraid of pain and you just did what you should do.”

When we talked with her in the rubble, she said she would live well for her parents, Cheng added.

Since the quake happed in May 12, Shandong province have sent 771 fire-fighters from about 14 cities like Weifang, Qingdao, Taian and Jinan to quake-hit regions. They rescued 130 persons in rubbles with 66 survivors. The local people highly praised their hard working.
