Updated: 2008-06-19 16:42 Representatives of people who made outstanding contributions to the earthquake rescue and relief operations have gathered in Beijing to tell their stories. Seven of the quake relief heroes attended Wednesday's meeting in person.
They were from many different professions, including soldiers, policemen, medical workers and ordinary volunteers. But they all displayed the same courage and selfless spirit which contributed so much in the days after the deadly Wenchuan earthquake. They were there to represent thousands more heroes, including some who gave their lives saving others. One by one, they told their personal tales from the frontlines before a packed house at the Great Hall of the People. Many in the audience were moved to tears. Senior party and government leaders, Li Chang Chun and Xi Jinping were in attendance. |
