CPPCC names candidates
By Xie Chuanjiao (China Daily) Updated: 2008-03-13 07:20 The candidates for the positions of chairpersons, secretary-general and members of the standing committee of the 11th National Committee of the CPPCC were approved by the presidium conference of its first session yesterday, Du Qinglin, head of the united front work department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said. The final list will be determined during the full session this afternoon, he said. "The candidates' list was concluded after open and harmonious group discussions involving all the 34 member groups of the CPPCC National Committee on Tuesday morning," Du said at the ongoing conference in Beijing. "CPPCC members supported and agreed with the suggested scheme," he said. The members have all agreed that the list was based on the exercise of full democracy and "attentive rumination" by the CPC Central Committee. It is fully in line with the legitimate election process and procedure of the CPPCC National Committee, Du said. The members also agreed that the proposed candidates have comprehensive capabilities, represent a broad social spectrum and are fully capable of handling the latest round of CPPCC National Committee work, the department chief said. The presidium conference also yesterday passed the work report and proposals-handling report delivered to the congress at the start of last week. Jia Qinglin and Zhang Meiying, respectively, chairman and vice-chairwoman of the 10th CPPCC National Committee, presented the two reports at the opening ceremony of the first session last Monday.
