The following is the biographical sketch of Ma Man Kei, who was elected vice-chairman of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Thursday.
Ma Man Kei
Male, born in October 1919, ethnic Han, native of Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.
Of college schooling, granted honorary doctor's degree of business administration by University of Macao, the then East Asia University of Macao, and honorary doctor's degree by Jinan University, Guangdong.
1938-1941 Started business in Hong Kong
1941-1948 Moved to Macao and founded several businesses and charity organizations
1948-1950 Council member, vice director, vice president and president of the Macao Chinese Chamber of Commerce
1950- Council member, director, and honorary advisor of Chinese Education Association of Macao; president of several Macao sports societies including basketball, volley-ball, table tennis, swimming and Chinese chess; board chairman of East Asia University of Macao and six primary and secondary schools; director, vice-chairman of board of five companies in China's interior regions; honorary presidents of several schools including Jinan University and Guangzhou University in Guangdong Province, Nanjing University, and Nanhai High School; Standing Committee member of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Standing Committee member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC); Member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC); vice-chairman of the Committee for Drafting of the Basic Law for the Macao Special Administrative Region; member of the Macao Legislative Council; and president of the Macao Chinese Chamber of Commerce
1993- Vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.
