The highest temperature in Nanjing city on June 9 hit a record low of 19.8 degrees Celsius, the lowest in a century for the same period, the Yangzi Evening News reported Friday.

By contrast, temperature in China's Northeast Heilongjiang province rocketed up to 36 degrees Celsius a few days ago, becoming the hottest day in 50 years for the same period.

A blogger posted temperatures in China's "four furnaces" and three "ice cities" showing Nanjing at 22 degrees Celsius, Wuhan at 21 degrees Celsius, Chongqing at 25 degrees Celsius, Nanchang at 23 degrees Celsius and Harbin at 35 degrees Celsius, Changchun at 34 degrees Celsius, and Shenyang at 33 degrees Celsius.
