BEIJING -- Taiwan residents signed up to take this year's National Judicial Exam on the Chinese mainland are allowed to submit their application materials in Taipei to save them time and money, according to the Ministry of Justice.

The National Judicial Exam has been open to Taiwan residents since 2008. Taiwanese candidates in the previous two years had to submit their application materials at the national judicial exam offices in Xiamen or Shenzhen on the mainland for qualification check.

The Taipei-based Association of Cross-Strait Legal Exchange was authorized by the Xiamen and Shenzhen offices this year to receive the materials and transfer them to the mainland, the ministry said in a statement on its website. The annual National Judicial exam, held in September, started in 2002. It is organized by the National Judicial Examination Center under the Ministry of Justice. Passing the exam is a prerequisite to enter the legal profession on the mainland.
