NANJING - Police have detained 62 people after breaking up a porn website, according to the public security bureau in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu province.
Police seized the alleged ringleader surnamed Zhang on March 6 in Beijing, said a statement issued by the bureau Friday.
The other suspects, mainly administrators and forum moderators of the website, were detained in about 20 provinces and regions in China in a follow-up operation, the statement said.
Zhang, 29, had confessed he bought the porn website for $4,000 from its former owner in 2008 and leased two servers outside China, said the statement.
Zhang allegedly earned profits of 400,000 yuan ($59,040) from the website with 300,000 registered members. Membership fees ranged from 68 to 598 yuan.
