Central China’s Henan province will become the nation’s first province with a population of 100 million people, according to the Henan Population and Family Planning Commission, Dahe News, a local newspaper reported Sunday.
The province’s population will surpass 100 million this month, said the report.
The Commission said the province’s efforts on family planning in the past 30 years have not only made Henan see 33 million less people, but also postponed the day of reaching a 100 million population by 13 years.
Henan said its population will be under 101 million by 2010, and 107 million by 2020.
July 11 is the World’s Population Day.
