Chinese consumer confidence ranks 7th worldwide

According to the Nielsen Global Consumer Confidence Index, during the second quarter of 2010, consumers in Asia continued to gain optimism, and China has ranked 7th among the optimistic areas in the world, West China Metropolis Daily reported Tuesday.

The statistics from the world leading consulting company, Nielsen, show that the consumer confidence index on the Chinese mainland rose to 109 points, one point higher than in the first quarter this year, while the index in Hong Kong rose to 101 points, 2 points higher than the first three months, ranking 12th in the world.

Among the surveyed countries and regions, the consumer confidence index of India was the highest, with 129 points, while the most pessimistic were Lithuania with 52 points, Japan with 55 points and South Korea with 56 points. The American index was 87 points, a slight uptick of 2 points from the previous quarter, but still lower than the global average of 93 points.
