China police handle 7,010 firearms cases in H1

KUNMING - Chinese police nationwide have dealt with 7,101 cases involving illicitly manufacture, sales and possession of firearms over the first half of this year, police said here Thursday.

The period also saw offenses involving explosives and firearms down 9.8 and 31.4 percent respectively, the Public Security Ministry said at a meeting held here.

The police also broke up 50 gangs, shut down 220 criminal premises selling and manufacturing firearms and tracked down 8,070 suspects.

Crackdowns on firearms-related offenses will continue to ensure the smooth running of the Shanghai World Expo and Guangzhou Asian Games to be held in November.
