Volunteer troubleshooters have helped mediate more than 480 conflicts and disputes on college campuses in Wuhan during the first half of this year, the Xinhua News Agency reported on Friday.

The volunteers are a group of college students and are appointed by a branch of the Wuhan public security bureau in the capital city of Central China’s Hubei province. About 150 have been trained so far.

Lots of problems on campus are love-related, said Wu Xuejun, chief of the Wuhan substation. The volunteers are effective because students are more willing to pour out their feelings to people of the same generation.

Zhang Hongzhan, a student from Central China Agricultural University, has been a mediator for more than one year. “It offered me a good opportunity to improve handling social matters, which can be quite useful to my future work,” he said.
