Plane overshoots runway in NE China

HARBIN - A passenger plane with more than 90 people on board overshot the runway at the airport of Yichun, northeast China's Heilongjiang province late Tuesday night, sources said. More than 20 injured have been hospitalized.

The ill-fated aircraft of Henan Airlines was engulfed in blaze after it overshot the runway, said officials with Heilongjiang provincial civil aviation authorities, correcting the previous wording that the plane had crashed.

The E-90 aircraft of Henan Airlines, with plate number VD8387, took off shortly before 9 pm from the provincial capital Harbin.

Officials in Yichun said the accident occurred at about 10:10 pm. (Beijing time).

Fire engines, ambulances, and trucks carrying rescuers have arrived at the scene.
