Magnitude 4.8 earthquake hits SW China, 1 injured

CHENGDU - An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale jolted southwest China's Ningnan county, Sichuan Province at 8:53 am Sunday Beijing time, a government spokesman with Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Liangshan in Sichuan Province said.

The earthquake left one farmer slightly injured and damaged many houses in the county. But no deaths or missing people were reported, said the spokesman.

The epicenter, with a depth of about 10 kilometers, was located at 27.1 degrees north latitude and 102.9 degrees longitude according to Sichuan's earthquake network center.
