Environmental education project for Chinese children launched

Beijing - An environmental education project for children was launched Tuesday at the Primary School Attached to the Peking University.

The project, entitled with Listen to the Earth, was co-sponsored by National Working Committee of Chinese Young Pioneers (NWCCYP) and China Children Press & Publication Group (CCPPG) with the assistance of International Cooper Association (ICA).

During the launching ceremony, which also marked the opening of the school's new semester, dozens of students performed a drama created on their own, Listen to the Earth. Using personification, the drama showed trees, rivers, flowers and birds' thirst for the clean environment.

Li Xueqian, deputy director of the NWCCYP and president of the CCPPG, said that the project aims to raise children's awareness on environmental protection all over the country.

Xu Hong, president of the ICA Asia said that the association would like to share the experience on environmental protection and resource utilization with Chinese children. "I wish all children to learn and accept the principle of sustainable development," he added.
