HK man gets 27 ys in jail for drug trafficking

HONG KONG - A 43-year-old man was sentenced to 27 years in jail for trafficking dangerous drugs, a release by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government information services department said on Tuesday.

The man was arrested by police officers from his car in Tin Shui Wai on Aug 28, 2008, after they found 4.68 kg of "ice" with an estimated value of HK$2.7 million from the bag of a 23-year-old male passenger. Both the driver and the passenger were arrested. The driver was later released.

The 23-year-old was charged with drug trafficking and pleaded guilty at the Court of First Instance. He was jailed for 16 years and six months in March last year.

After further investigation and information provided by the 23- year-old, police again arrested the driver on Sept 11 last year. He was charged with one count of conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drugs and was convicted on Sept 20.
