China orders 47 websites to remove porn novels or be shut down

BEIJING - China's General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP) said Monday it will shut 47 Internet websites if they continue to offer pornographic novels to readers.

The GAPP said in a statement the websites are offering 38 pornographic novels to readers.

The websites include: www.junzitang.com; www.docin.com; www.doc88.com;www.shulu.net; and www.uutxt.net.

As part of a nationwide campaign against pornography, the GAPP periodically publicizes a list of websites found to be offering pornographic material.

On July 15, the GAPP released a list of 122 domestic websites that were offering pornographic material.

As of July 28, China had shut down or blocked 19,000 websites that were offering lewd or pornographic content, after it launched its crackdown in December last year. Some 15,500 of the 19,000 websites were porn mobile WAP sites.
