Clouds wreathe Mount Namjagbarwa in the Tibet autonomous region, Oct 25. Ranked as the most beautiful mountain in China by the Chinese National Geography magazine, Namjagbarwa in the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon is becoming as big a tourist hot spot as Mount Qomolangma. The mountain is the world’s 15th highest, standing 7,782 meters above sea level. The word “Namjagbarwa” has several meanings in the Tibetan language, among which the most acknowledged is “the spear piercing into the sky”. Folklore suggests the mountaintop is where the gods get together, and the cloud around is smoke rising from the fragrant branches they burn. As a result, residents in the canyon deeply revere the lofty mountain. [Photo/Xinhua]
