The past 30-plus years of China’s fast development and political reform have shown that an explicit aim in reforms can help avoid obstacles and confusion, said a commentary by Xinhua News Agency.

The commentary said nations and people who shouldered great destiny throughout history all had clear aims without exception. Only with good aims and persistent efforts can one succeed, which also can be applied to China’s political reform.

The aim for China’s reform is to perfect the socialist system, which was sought by the Chinese people 100 years ago and which proved to be a system that can help make the country prosperous as well as enhance people’s living standards, the commentary said.

Copying the Western system without taking into consideration China’s characteristics and other countries’ experiences will only force China’s political reform to be steered off course.

The ultimate goal for political reform is to better serve the people, on which the Communist Party of China has made great progress. The success of the Beijing Olympics and Shanghai World Expo, relief efforts after the Wenchuan earthquake and Zhouqu mudslides have all shown the world the efficiency of China’s system, the commentary said.

Political reform won’t stop for a minute regardless of progress because problems still exist in many areas. But we have reason to believe that China’s political reform will be a great success if it evolves in the right direction.
