BEIJING - Beijing, the Chinese capital, generated $243.2 billion in foreign trade in the first 10 months of the year, a 42-percent year-on-year rise, the local customs house said Saturday.

The city's trade deficit increased 62.7 percent year on year in the period to $152.4 billion.
Its trade with the European Union rose 28.6 percent year on year to $31.89 billion while trade with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) members increased 27.6 percent to $16.12.
Its trade with the United States jumped 26.7 percent year on year to $15.81 billion while that with Japan climbed 28.9 percent to $15.04 billion.
In the ten-month period, Beijing exported $27.75 billion worth of machinery and electronics, up 11.9 percent year on year, while it imported $53.58 billion of the goods, up 29.2 percent.
