With a total investment of about 1.6 billion yuan (US$239 million), the Chengdu Wanguo Data Center, the largest disaster recovery data center in Asia, was formally launched in the west zone of Chengdu High-tech Zone in Sichuan province on Friday.

China's disaster recovery system is deployed mainly in the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and along the Bohai Economic Belt, while it is in short supply in the western region.

In 2008, Chengdu officially started construction of the National Information Disaster Recovery Base.

The Chengdu Wanguo Data Center is equivalent to a safe "data bank" in which enterprises and institutions can keep their data and will no longer worry about loss or leaks, according to a center official.
