Fog disrupts air, road traffic in China

DALIAN - More than 3,000 passengers have been stranded after heavy fog blanketed an airport in northeast China's Liaoning province Wednesday.

At least 46 domestic and international flights, including many linking Dalian city to Seoul, Tokyo, Melbourne and Frankfurt, had been canceled or delayed by Wednesday noon, publicity officials with the Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport told Xinhua.

The fog rolled in Tuesday night, cutting visibility at the airport to 100 meters, which is below flying standards.

Flights gradually resumed Wednesday noon as the fog dispersed.

Fog also forced traffic authorities in Southwest China's Sichuan province to close sections of its 10 highways Wednesday as visibility dropped to 50 meters in some regions.

Highway traffic slowly resumed after the fog began to lift at noon.

Fog also shrouded parts of Chongqing municipality, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Guizhou province in Southwest China and Jilin province in Northeast China Wednesday morning, according to the Central Meteorological Center.

The center forecast more fog across the country in the coming few days.
