Chinese senior official He Guoqiang Thursday expressed the hope for the organizing committee and the municipal government of Shanghai to turn the upcoming Expo into a clean and frugal gala at the Expo site.

He, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, made the call during a five-day inspection tour that ended in Shanghai Thursday.

During his visit to the Shanghai Futures Exchange, he asked authorities to press ahead with the construction of a financial market system and beef up financial monitoring measures and safeguard financial security.

The official also called for college graduates to devote their knowledge and talents to the development of modern environmental-friendly agriculture and embrace innovation in agricultural technologies.

Efforts should also be made to develop economy in a steady and relatively fast manner, optimize economic structure, upgrade capacity for independent innovation, promote the coordinated development of urban and rural areas and safeguard social harmony and stability, he stressed.
