Selected poems of Indian Nobel laureate poet Rabindranath Tagore were read Monday afternoon at the India Pavilion to mark the 149th anniversary of his birth.
Riva Ganguly, consul general of India in Shanghai, said the poetry reading session was a tribute to Tagore's long friendship with China.
Zhao Lihong, vice president of Shanghai Writers Association, recalled Tagore's visit to Shanghai in 1924. He said the poet built a bridge between China and India with his words, spirit and dreams.
Indian performers danced at the scene following the poems.
