One miner was lifted out of the shaft of the Laolongdong Coal Mine in Chongqing's Changshou District early Thursday while the other six were rescued by midnight Thursday, a Changshou District Government statement said.

The miners were taken to People's Hospital in Changshou District. They are in stable conditions.

Rescuers spent two days pumping water out of the mine before they could save the miners.

Ten miners were working underground when the accident occurred at 4 p.m. Monday. Three miners managed to escape by themselves.

An initial investigation showed the miners accidentally drilled through to an adjacent flooded mine.
