HONG KONG - Hong Kong hospitals on Friday reported three more deaths related to flu A/H1N1.

According to Hong Kong Prince of Wales Hospital, Hong Kong Queen Mary Hospital and Hong Kong Tuen Men hospital, a 71-year-old male patient, a 83-year-old male patient and  64-year-old female patient died Friday due to continued deterioration of clinical condition.

In response to the recent influenza situation in Hong Kong, the Hospital Authority (HA), in close collaboration with the Center for Health Protection, has activated the enhanced monitoring system for severe influenza patients staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals.

The HA spokesman said as of 2 pm Friday, three newly confirmed cases of flu A/H1N1 had been admitted to intensive care units who are all female patients, including a 58-year-old and a 56-year-old who are in critical condition, and a 29-year-old who is in serious condition.

Currently, there are a total of 27 influenza patients staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals in Hong Kong, including the above two newly confirmed cases.
