LANZHOU -- Three children have died of food poisoning in northwest China's Gansu Province and investigators suspected they had drunk nitrite-tainted milk, the local government said Friday.
Thirty-five other patients were being treated at two leading hospitals in Pingliang City Friday morning, mostly children under 14, said a joint press release by the city government and health bureau.
It said one of the patients was in critical condition and the other cases were stable.
An initial investigation shows all the patients were poisoned by nitrite after drinking bulk milk provided by two local dairy farms.
The two farms were sealed off after the accident and their managers were being probed.
