BEIJING - China's weather service authority said the country was under impact of a cold snap starting Saturday.

The mercury hovered well over 20 degrees Celsius in most parts of the country on Friday. Because of the cold snap, however, there will be a drop in temperatures for most areas north to the Huaihe River over the next three days, according to a forecast given by the National Meteorological Center (NMC).

The NMC said the temperatures would go down by six to eight degrees Celsius in some parts of western China, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, North China and Northeast China over the next 72 hours.

Sandy and dusty weather would hit the basins in southern Xinjiang, central and western parts of Inner Mongolia autonomous region and northern Shanxi province, according to the NMC forecast.

Humid and rainy weather would continue in areas south to the Yangtze River and northern parts of South China over the next few days, said the NMC.
