XINING - The fire which killed one woman in a large shopping mall in the downtown of Xining City, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province, was put out Sunday morning, local authorities said.

The fire broke out at about 3 p.m. Saturday, and was put out at around 1:49 a.m. Sunday, said Wang Yanming, spokesman for the Xining city government, adding that the cause of the fire was under investigation.

Another 15 people in the building were rescued and sent to hospital, while residents of a nearby building had been evacuated, said Wang.

"The responsible people will be punished once we find out the cause of the fire," said Wang.
