The victims of the devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck Yushu in Northwest China's Qinghai province will be honored with three minutes' silence, chinanews.com reported.

The memorial will be held at 7:49 am on Thursday, the exact moment one year on from when the tragedy struck.

The Qinghai government said people will remember loved ones as all vehicles, trains, steamers and alarms will whistle in honor of the dead.

The announcement came one year after the devastating earthquake which killed 2,698 people, with 270 still missing, causing residential buildings, schools, and hospitals to collapse, on April 14, 2010.
