BEIJING - China's flood control authority said on Friday that local governments in southern China should keep a close eye on rainy weather and reinforce reservoirs and lakes, as the southern regions have entered the flood season.
Heavy rain will hit most areas south to the Yangtze River over the next three days. Forecasts predict that precipitation in some areas of southwest China will reach 20 to 40 millimeters while rainfall in parts of Guizhou, Hunan, Jiangxi, Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong provinces may reach 50 to 80 millimeters, the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said in a statement on its website.
Local governments should strengthen forecasts of rainy weather, reinforce rivers and reservoirs and adopt other measures to prevent flooding and torrents, the flood control authority said.
