Some 173 officials from six provinces in Northwest China have received Party or administrative punishments for their involvement in illegal land use in 2010, according to a report from a government conference on land supervision organized by in Xi'an Bureau of State Land Supervision on April 18.
And among them, 22 could face criminal charges under the law, the bureau's figures show.
The report revealed 280,000 square meters of illegal buildings were removed in 2010 and 50,000 square meters were confiscated in the six provinces in northwestern China. The fines or forfeiture totaled 63.21 million yuan ($9.7 million).
612 million yuan in land transfer fees, 1.29 miilion yuan in land reclamation fees and 12.43 million yuan in new construction land use fees was also recovered in 2010, said the report.
Yang Lu, director of the bureau said the administrator would strengthen macro-control in accordance with the economic development. "We will ban the improper uses and tell how to use properly," she said.
