Two road accidents in N China kill 8 and injure 33

SHIJIAZHUANG - Eight people were killed and 33 others were injured in two road accidents in north China's Hebei province on Friday, local authorities said Saturday.

A coach carrying students from four colleges in Chengde city to the coastal city of Qinhuangdao collided with a truck and a van. Two students were killed and 27 others were injured, according to a statement from the Chengde municipal government.

The accident happened at around 10:00 am Friday when the coach reached Kuancheng County. The injured were being treated in local hospitals, the statement said.

In a separate accident, a truck collided with three sedans, an electric vehicle and ran down a pedestrian in Hebei's Huailai county at around 7:50 pm Friday, killing four people on the site, according to a statement from Huailai's traffic police.

Another two people died in hospital. Six injured ones were being treated in local hospitals, the statement said.

The causes of the two accidents are under investigation.
