China appreciates Greek help in Libyan evacuation

BEIJING - China restated its appreciation on Monday for Greece's assistance in the evacuation of Chinese citizens from Libya.

Vice Foreign Minister Song Tao said Greece played an important role in China's quick evacuation of nearly 13,000 citizens from Libya in March.

Song made the remarks in a meeting with Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Spyros Kouvelis, after which the two sides signed a joint statement to simplify visa procedures.

A press release from the Foreign Ministry did not provide details of the joint statement, but Song said it will facilitate people-to-people exchanges and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Song touted Greece as a strategic partner that has consistently provided support and assistance on major issues and at critical times.
