Chinese soccer coach hurt while stopping crime

CHENGDU, Sichuan province - A Chinese soccer coach was severely injured while trying to stop several robbers, a Sichuan soccer official revealed on his microblog on Tuesday.

Li Sheng, head coach of Sichuan soccer team for the National City Games, tried to stop several men from robbing a woman of her handbag on Sunday night, when the robbers hacked at his face and back, Sichuan soccer assoaciation chief Gu Jianming said.

"Li was severely injured and underwent surgery in the West China University of Medical Science Hospital," Gu said.

"Hopefully everything is alright with him," Gu added. "Your team is waiting for you to come back."

Li just led the team to qualify for the first division competition at the quadrennial games, which is a nation wide multi-sport meet aimed at scouting young talents for the national teams.
