HANGZHOU - Police in East China's Zhejiang province arrested more than 200 suspects on Wednesday who allegedly manufactured and sold fake medicines and health care products.
More than 1,000 police officers from Jinhua Public Security Department raided 41 dens and took away 263 suspects, said a spokesman with the police.
Police also seized fake medicines along with vehicles, computers and tools that were valued at 20 million yuan ($3 million), the spokesman said.
Police were tipped in March about the fake medicines and health care products that were sold through the Internet.
After a thorough investigation, police tracked the gang, most of whom were from the city of Loudi in central China's Hunan province, according to the spokesman.
Under the coordination of the Ministry of Public Security, police in Guangdong, Henan, Jiangsu, Shaanxi and Hubei also launched compaingns to crack down on the illegal production and sales of fake medicines.
