5.3-magnitude quake hits China's Xinjiang

BEIJING - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale hit Toksun county, Turpan prefecture in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region at 9:53 am Beijing Time Wednesday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 43.0 degrees north latitude and 88.3 degrees east longitude with a depth of about 5 kilometers, the center said.
