BEIJING - Chinese diving team will go to the Shanghai swimming world championships without some of their young stars in men's platform, reports said on Friday.

Zhang Yanquan, 17, and Cao Yuan, 16, will have to sit out of the tournament in the Chinese largest city due to hand injuries, Chinese portal Sina.com reported.

Zhang suffered finger fracture while Cao was bothered by a wrist problem. The duo paired up to win a World Cup synchronized platform title last year.

"They both are young and competitive divers but we are considering more their future, so they probably will miss this worlds to have a good rest and recovery from the injuries," team leader Zhou Jihong was quoted as saying.

Lin Yue, well accomplished Olympic and world champion, also pulled out of the competition for a spot in the world championship squad.

Lin, turning 20 next month, has been fighting with chronic injuries since he teamed up with Huo Liang to bag the Beijing Olympics synchronized platform gold in 2008. He is treating a waist injury now.

The world swimming championships is slated for July 16 through to 31.
