URUMQI - One person was missing and 61 others were saved after mountain torrents swept a construction site in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region Friday, the local government said Saturday.

The accident happened at around 6 pm, when floods trapped 62 people at the construction site near a hydropower station in Hejing county of the Mongolian autonomous prefecture of Bayingolin, the prefecture government said in a press release.

As of midnight, rescuers saved 61 people, including 59 adults and two children, it said.

The only person that remained missing is an excavator driver at the construction site.

The survivors were evacuated to safety early Saturday and rescuers are still searching for the missing.
