NANNING - Seven people were confirmed dead and two injured after Saturday's equipment collapse at a power plant in south Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, the local government said Monday.

A steel structure collapsed while 11 workers were dismantling a scrap generator at Heshan Electricity Generating Company in Heshan city Saturday afternoon.

The accident killed three people at the scene and two others died later in the hospital.

Rescuers later retrieved the bodies of two workers who were reported missing in the accident, bringing the death toll to 7 Monday morning.

The two injured workers remain hospitalized but are in stable condition, said Liang Chunhui, vice president of Heshan People's Hospital.

He said one suffered a slight cerebral concussion and the other underwent surgery to repair a right-leg fracture.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.
