4 die, 2 hurt after car hits bridge guardrail

HANGZHOU - Four people, including a child, died and two others were injured in an automobile accident in East China's Zhejiang Province on Wednesday.

The accident happened at about 4:45 pm on the Zhoushan Bridge, which links the island of Zhoushan with the province's city of Ningbo, according to firefighters on the scene.

A sedan bound for Ningbo crashed into a guardrail in the middle of the bridge, rescuers said.

The vehicle was carrying six people, including the driver.

Two of the passengers died before rescuers could make it to the scene, while another died after resuscitation efforts failed. The fourth victim died after being taken to a local hospital.

The two injured were rushed to a local hospital, but their injuries are not life-threatening.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is under way.
