Beijing drenched in downpour

BEIJING - Beijing was drenched in downpour Friday morning, and the weather bureau forecast heavy rain will continue in the coming 12 hours.

The bureau sent a yellow alarm for thunder and lightning at 6:05 am and a blue alarm for torrential rain at 7:50 am.

It warned most parts of the city is in for heavy rain throughout the coming 12 hours and the average precipitation will top 50 mm.

Meteorologists have also warned citizens to watch out for flood and geological disasters in the mountainous areas.

The downpour began shortly after 7 am, drenching and trapping crowds of people on their way to work.
