DALIAN - More than 5,800 people were stranded Saturday at the airport of a Northeast China city as thick fog shrouded the area, local authorities said.

A thick fog blanketed Dalian, a major city in northeastern Liaoning province, from Saturday morning. The authorities only cleared the air traffic as the fog dispersed at noon but were prompted to close the airport again when the fog started to thicken at 6 pm.

It is the fourth day the air traffic of Dalian's Zhoushuizi International Airport was seriously affected by heavy fog. At least 6,000 passengers were stranded Friday morning and more than 140 flights were disrupted on Thursday.
