An institute for the advanced study of philosophy was founded in the capital on Wednesday, the first of its kind in China.

Initiated by the Social Sciences in China Press, a publisher directed by China's top social science think tank, the institute has been co-founded by philosophy departments at 11 universities, including Peking, Tsinghua and Fudan.

Wang Weiguang, deputy director of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and nominal director of the institute, said its mission is to coordinate academic study of philosophy, boost innovative research and enhance China's global influence in the area.
