BUDAPEST - Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met Hungarian Parliament Speaker Laszlo Kover here on Saturday, with both sides pledging to promote bilateral ties.

Wen said that friendship between China and Hungary is deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples, and that there is no historical burden between the two countries.

Common interests are constantly expanding, which provides a firm basis for the development of bilateral ties, he added.

Wen said the Chinese government will work together with the Hungarian government to seize opportunities and cooperate closely to implement a series of agreements and consensus reached during this visit, which he believes will surely win the support of the Hungarian parliament.

The Chinese premier said that he is fully confident of the future of China-Hungary ties.

Kover said the important agreements and consensus reached between Hungary and China during Wen's visit will give fresh impetus to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

The Hungarian parliament is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the National People's Congress of China, and play an active role in advancing the ties between the two countries, he added.

Earlier Saturday, Premier Wen delivered a speech here at the China-Central and East European Countries Economic and Trade Forum, making a five-point proposal to enhance China's cooperation with countries in Central and Eastern Europe.

He also held talks with Hungarian President Pal Schmitt on Saturday.
