HANGZHOU - One person was killed and 21 others slightly injured Wednesday after a bus overturned on an expressway in Zhejiang Province, rescuers said.
The accident happened around 2:30 pm in the city of Tongxiang on an interprovincial expressway linking the provincial capital of Hangzhou and Shanghai, rescuers said.
Twenty-two people aboard the bus were rushed to hospital where one of them, a man in his 30s, later died after emergency treatment, they said.
The driver said the bus overturned after he veered to overtake traffic ahead.
When the tragedy occurred, the 55-seat bus was en route to the city of Shangyu in Zhejiang from Shanghai. The passengers, all from a Shanghai company, charted the bus to return to their hometown of Shangyu for Chinese Lunar New Year that falls on January 23.
