URUMQI - China's largest inland port, the port of Alataw Pass in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, saw its foreign trade value reach $17.4 billion last year, up by 46.5 percent from the previous year.
Last year, China imported 18.62 million tonnes of goods through the port, with an import value of $14 billion. Exports hit 1.72 million tonnes with a value of $3.4 billion, according to the Customs of Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang.
Bordering Kazakhstan, the port of Alataw Pass has a combination of railway, highway and pipeline transports. Crude oil, petroleum products, electrolytic copper and cotton are the main imports through the port.
