GUIYANG - Ten people were killed and 26 others suffered injuries after the bus they were aboard veered off a road and rolled down an eight-meter-high slope in southwest China Saturday noon.
Rescuers have pulled out passengers from the wreck, which lies upside-down in Daozhen county, Guizhou province. The injured are being sent to nearby hospitals.
Authorities are still probing the case with few details available at the moment. According to witnesses, a tire of the bus exploded before the vehicle careened off the road.
It is the second serious road accident reported in China on Saturday. In the other accident, six passengers were killed after a bus collided with a truck in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region Saturday morning.
About 70,000 people die and 300,000 suffer injuries from road accidents in China each year, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
